Travel (continued)Canada (continued)We headed west for a two-day train trip, again in our own compartment, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where we planned to stay two days. We asked our friend in Calgary for advice as to what we should do when we got to Winnipeg. His response was, “Don’t get off the train.” We did not heed his advice, it only made us want to see Winnipeg more. We had a good time at The Forks in Winnipeg which is located at the confluence of the Red River and Assiniboine and is an area of markets, entertainment, and restaurants. |
Another overnight train ride brought us to Jasper where we rented a car and drove south on the glacier highway to Calgary. We spent two days visiting our friends Guy and Riina. |
The following two days after leaving Jasper, were both day trips as we travelled through the Canadian Rockies in the day time to experience the views. We stayed overnight in Prince George and the next night in Prince Rupert near the west coast of British Columbia. |
From there we took a two-day ferry ride up the Inland Passage with various stops at cities like Ketchikan, Petersburg, and Sitka to offload and onload cars, passengers, and cargo. We got to Sitka about 2 a.m., I woke up, pulled on pants and a jacket, and got off/on the ferry so I could later say I had been to Sitka, Alaska. Our final destination was Juneau, the Capital of Alaska. We spent three days visiting places in and around the Juneau area before flying back to home. |
